Signs You Need a Refrigerant Recharge

Most air conditioners used in homes or businesses use refrigerants like Freon. This coolant absorbs heat energy from the surrounding area and moves it where it is needed.

If you’ve ever been concerned your AC system’s refrigerant may be low, or need replacing, then you are not alone. It’s a fairly common concern among homeowners.

These are some of the warning signs you may need a refrigerant recharge.

  • Frozen copper tubing coming out of AC or above furnace at the AC coil
  • Warm air blowing out of AC (outside unit) when in fact it should be hot air
  • Dirty evaporator coil or condenser coil (outside AC unit)
  • Strange noises not audible before

With yearly maintenance for your HVAC equipment from Total Aire Care, you can usually avoid costly refrigerant recharges and other expensive repairs by catching the issue early. The most common cause of an AC system being low on refrigerant is a small leak in the copper tubing. Allowing an AC system to run while being low on refrigerant will cause unwanted stress reducing the life of your AC system.
